‘Pratyangira ‘is born of Lord Siva’s will and hence called ‘Sivamanasaputrika’ 90 Siva’s daughter born of his mind). At the time of creation, a fierce battle ensued between Devas and Asuras in which Devas were defeated. Swiftly responding to the fervent appeals of celestials, the Primordial divine mother produced a terrific 64 forms. She was called ‘Pratyangira’. Goddess Pratyangira is the presiding deity of all the 64 fine arts. The celestials received her grace by worshipping her with the 64 names that represent the respective arts and equal number of tridents was erected in her shrine. In order to ward off the usual afflictions such as evil sight, jealousy envy and black magic (‘chetabadi’ in telugu) and Banamathi by piercing lemons to the Tridents after taking traditional bath in the northern current of Krishna River which is unique. Thus the devotees can remove similar afflictions in Saiva Kshetram.
